Gove is one of the finest instructors I've ever had. His knowledge of the subject matter is excellent and the enthusiasm and energy with which he teaches makes class a real pleasure for me.
Great enthusiasm! Excellent job of explaining concepts.
Gove - Excellent job. You captivated me and gave me even a greater interest in the subject matter, outstanding skills in teaching!
Gove is an excellent instructor, but too much time was spend helping students that didn't know how to FTP, or had problems with DOS commands.
Gove Rules! If more instructors had a student's perspective, and great knowledge, school would be amazing.
Instructor had excellent jokes. Helped the students pay attention.
Overall good, may want to do more w/business applications or relevance.
It was a really interesting class. I thought the assignments should have been more challenging.
Gove is a great teacher and is knowledgeable about the subject matter. He is good at knowing what helps students learn. His only limitations are the equipment he is given to use, i.e., his laptop. Some of the students laptops, and his server. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had at this university.
Great class, I enjoyed being here and learning the stuff that we did in class. This is one of the better classes I've had at the U.
You actually made this interesting. I'm glad you didn't throw around jargon without realizing we don't know jargon etc. That's always been a pet peeve of mine. You do very well at breaking the whole of the concepts down and feeding them to us in bite-sized portion. HTML book (section) could have been laid out better so we could quick-reference tags and such.
Too much time spent copying codes. Understanding the whole picture minimal. Otherwise good class!
Java should have its own class; we cold have spent more time on it. Laptops in the classroom helped a lot.
Curve the midterm!
Great work, Gove! You are one of the best instructors I have ever had! Laptops in class are AWESOME!!
Putting us in front of computer was a bad decision. Also, somehow this material needs to be "spiced up" in order to keep our interest. Simply, a classroom setting, like this-where we watch you write code, is the worst way to learn a language. A better way would (be) to have workbook, treat class like a lab, and you just help when we get stuck. As this class stands now, it should be done independent study. Also the book sucked.
Too many topics in one course.
Gove was a very good teacher. He showed great respect and concern for students. Easy to follow and learn in class.
Sometimes you say something like "You guys don't need to understand this, just trust me and copy this code", and I would actually rather understand it. (Take nested class (interface thing with item listeners in your example, I was waiting the whole time of an explanation and then you just said we don't need to understand it). Other than that SUPERB!!!
The first 4-5 weeks were very interesting, but it wasn't so interesting last few weeks. Maybe lack of homework or lack of clear example or Java is just too hard. Have a good spring break!
Gove was great. I especially enjoyed having a laptop in class. It heightened my excitement.
I thought we went over too many topics. We could have left out Java all together or SP all together. I would have personally liked to learn one specific technology thoroughly and have a good understanding on how that particular programming technique fits into the grand scheme of it rather than learning a very little about all different technologies.
Gove Allen is an exceptional instructor. This is probably the first class where I thought it should be twice as long in length to fully discover the subject matter.
Fun class. Although I didn't feel like I really learned JAVA or VB Script. It was more of learning the assignment. The assignments were too similar to the in-class stuff, so it made the assignments too easy and I never really had to learn the material.
Gove, you are super cool! The only criticism I have for the class is that sometimes a large amount of time is spent getting students to a certain point, then the remaining time, we rush through the code w/o adequate explanation.
Gove is brilliant. He can explain very well to novices. Only wish office hours were later. I was expecting mostly Java but wish the whole class would have been on web pages or ASP, and then another whole course in Java. Book was not helpful, I used HTML for Dummies and Java for Dummies.
